Working Small

Jenny and i have talked about her love of 'working small.'

i've been messing with these small pieces of art paper called

'artist trading cards' they're the size of a baseball card...

jenny likes to work small

i like to work fast

after messing with these 'artist trading cards'

and some other small pieces of thick vellum paper that i cut 'to size'

i realized...

i may be in trouble....

lil' hugger

he was a hugger and a breather,

he hugg-ed and he nested.

he hugged his peoples,

walked home then rested.

his eyes were wide,

absorbent and swell...

and when he was needy,

if he had to...

he'd just hug himself....

Two Friends

 they were the best of friends

friends o friends!....

friends forever!!!!

together together!

even when the crumbs are gone....

and the dribbles are drunk!

Cement Bucket/Stuck

most of us know what it feels like to be 'stuck.'

it's okay...ask for help.

 maybe down the road, 

                  you will have moved farther along

than you thought imaginable.

you might not even recognize when it happens.

maybe it's better to accept it and give thanks

thank to try and calculate it and quantify it?

No Junk

there was this franciscan ministry that i read about

that was run by this big guy that always wore overalls...

he sure loved people.

and he affirmed the needy folks that came in for help,

constantly by reminding them of this:

'God don't make no junk.'

Take what you like...leave the rest...

i'm gonna say a few words to those who are creative and get a sense of

pleasure out of art-ing, making music, writing, etc.

i'm gonna say a few words to those who may even feel like their creativity is part of a

vocational call....

this is meant as an encouragement...take what you like leave what you don't....

it makes no difference to me.

-keep doing your stuff as long as the unction is there.

-do it out of response to that unction first...if others like it...great.

-find ways to give some of your stuff away.

-if you're trying to sell your stuff, for goodness sake, price it to sell....

-consider making/doing stuff that is 'utilitarian' as well as cool or beautiful.

-find places to share your stuff that have 'returns' for you. avoiding 'playing for exposure' and 'displaying art' for disinterested art walkers is OKAY.....

-take an interest in other people's stuff with sincerity.

-it's okay to lie fallow for awhile if you need to.

-you can come back if you've been avoiding your creativity..she's pretty thick skinned

-consider reading "God, help me create" by Claire W. and "Ignore Everyone" by Hugh Mcleod (potty language warning on this one)

-have fun please.....

-please don't take yourself too seriously...serious artists, writers, etc. are boring....(i know, it's a challenge..seriously i know)

Autumn Arriving
